Learning Discussion Groups for Mental Health Professionals, facilitated by Karla Dolinsky, M.C.

Upcoming Learning Discussion Groups

Often, working as a Mental Health Professional can feel rather isolating.

Each month we will offer a Learning Discussion, with a short presentation on the topic of focus.

These sessions are collaborative discussions with peers from all levels and areas of practice.

Times given are in both Pacific Standard Time (PST) and the U.K. timezone.

Each topic is one session that will be attended by mental health professionals practicing in various countries.

At Complex Trauma Institute we believe that we can thrive as Professionals when we can share our experiences, insights, & resources. We grow as Professionals when we can learn through discussions with peers where we grapple with the very complex and serious issues that come into our offices each day.

Our work is intensely human and personal in nature, but we are guided by skill, experiences and resources that are continually being updated. What we are offering in these monthly sessions are multi-national collaborative discussions with peers from all levels and areas of practice. The intended format of these monthly sessions will include reference materials and an introduction to the month’s topic.  Upon registration, you will be provided with resources that introduce you to the topic. The Learning Session will begin with Karla presenting a short summary of the topic or issue (you will later receive a copy of this powerpoint). After the introduction, the session is open to all participants to engage in the discussions, facilitated by Karla. We all learn differently, so your level of engagement is up to you. You may self-select whether you wish to have your video or microphone on to enter the discussion, or you may prefer to remain more as an audience member to learn from the panel of international participants and their exchanges.

Upon attendance, UK participants will receive a certificate of completion from CTI to confirm their 2.0 CPD credits.

Karla Dolinsky is a member of the Complex Trauma Therapist’s Network in the UK and is

She has a private practice as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), based in Victoria, Canada, and works worldwide. Karla is a trained EMDR Therapist, with extensive advanced training in EMDR for Trauma and for dissociative states.

Karla has received specific occupational awareness training to work as a Mental Health Therapist with First Responders and has earned the Silver Seal of Endorsement by the BCPFFA. She is also on the list of Preferred Counsellors with the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) in British Columbia.

Karla has had intensive training with Dr. Gabor Mate on the subjects of complex trauma, attachment and addictions, and has studied with Dr. Gordon Neufeld toward certification as a Parenting Coach, with the realisation that if we prevent or attend to the traumas of childhood well, then we may minimise the development of complex trauma.

Karla has also has worked as an educator, developing and presenting courses at the graduate level. Her work with Royal Roads University had her creating and presenting courses both in person and online focussed on communication, principled interpersonal relationship, argumentation and negotiation.

Karla is currently a member of the Complex Trauma Institute Training Team, offering webinar courses on an ongoing basis. In early 2020, Karla developed and presented a series of webinars for Mental Health Professionals titled: Psychotherapy in the Time of Covid, to assist fellow professionals with the adaptations we were faced with as the Pandemic changed our world. As mental health workers it is vital that we continually adjust how we practice psychotherapy; it is helpful if we can collaborate, as professionals, to share insights into the emerging complexity of issues people are now living with and how they are showing up in our practice.

Karla works in Private Practice , as well as contracting with organisations who seek her skills, insights and expertise. Karla’s areas of practice include grief and loss, complex trauma, challenging relationships, PTSD, chronic/terminal illness, life transitions and critical incident trauma.
